I come from a family that has always been steeped in music, in one way or another. I studied classical violin and voice, and played in many orchestras and ensembles as a child. In my twenties I went to live in Galway, Ireland to study the Celtic harp with Kathleen Loughnane of the Irish traditional group Dordan.

After returning to my native Vancouver, I began to work as a library assistant at the Vancouver Public Library part-time while I played and recorded with many different ensembles, such as the all female Celtic/Medieval/ Early Music group that I co-founded called The Maenads, as well as other bands and ensembles ranging from classical quartets to Indie groups such as The New Pornographers.

After some time of juggling being in six music groups at the same time, and realizing that some major dental bills were well nigh, I decided to be a librarian when I grew up.

Even though my good survival instincts (which kindly yet urgently suggested that I really didn’t want to end up with Shane McGowan’s teeth) were the original motivating factors for going to get my Masters in Library and Information Science from UBC, it backfired, sorta, kinda, because now I am passionate about the field of librarianship too. And quel LUCK! I get to combine it all working at CKUA as music librarian!
